The Community Health & Youth Foundation is proud to support the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW) program and provide scholarships for area high school students. Over the course of five sessions in July and August, The PFEW aims to provide high school juniors and seniors with hands-on experience developing mock businesses and services in order to learn entrepreneurship and its value in America. Over 3300 applications are received from students across the state with the hope to fill one of the 2200 available seats at Lycoming College each summer.
Participants are grouped into management teams of junior executives who have inherited imaginary companies, which they must operate for a computer simulated three-year period. To deepen the experience, they will be competing against two other student-led companies manufacturing and distributing the same products. The students will work with balance sheets, statements of income, market share surveys, and be expected to consider global competition, government policy initiatives and even political unrest under the guidance of mentors from various fields in an immersive experience .
How can you be a part of it?
Every student attends PFEW on a fully tax-deductible $575 scholarship (the actual value of the scholarship is approximately $1500) provided in full or in part by local companies. The Foundation has made a commitment to support at least 5 scholarships for students in our area so that they might have the opportunity to attend this incredible program.
Your fully tax-deductible contribution could play an important role in a young person’s successful future and we hope you will join us in supporting this amazing program. You can click here to donate online or please make a check payable to Community Health & Youth Foundation.
