Beating Winter Blues: Tips From Our Members

“In the bleak midwinter…”

Midwinter is upon us, and getting to spring without climbing the walls depends on our mindset. Dig deep, and make a list of the things you cherish about winter. Special pieces in your winter wardrobe? Reading by the fireplace? Brewing a fragrant tea? The silence of bare trees? When we shift our focus from merely enduring winter to noticing its quiet gifts, the season becomes something not to escape, but to inhabit—one small, intentional pleasure at a time.

When Winter Brings Things to the Surface - Mindful Writing

Winter's slowness sometimes brings up what's already there—grief we've been outrunning, loneliness we've avoided, unprocessed experiences waiting for attention. The season creates space for feelings to surface. Instead of pushing them away, what if we listened? Try journaling: What might these feelings be telling me about what I need? Sometimes "the blues" is an invitation to tend to ourselves.   –

Natural Boost for Winter Mood

Shorter days and colder temperatures can take a toll on energy and outlook during winter. Warming herbs and spices that are found in tea such as cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and orange peel may help support circulation, digestion, and overall vitality. A daily herbal tea ritual can provide gentle comfort, hydration, and a natural moment of calm in your day. Pair with movement, sunlight, and nutrient-dense foods to help keep your mood and wellness steady through the season.

Two-Minute Reset:
Try a 2-minute nervous-system reset when winter stress builds. Sit tall, inhale through your nose for 4 counts, hold for 2, then exhale slowly for 6–8 counts; repeat 6 times. Follow with a quick shoulder and jaw release. Longer exhalations activate the body’s calming response, easing tension and irritability. Practice once mid-morning and once late afternoon for steadier mood.
