How the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County Is Championing Local Nonprofits
For more than a century, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County has been the connective tissue between business and community across Montco.
Established in 1913, it now counts roughly 800 members, and about 10% of them are nonprofits. The Chamber has built a genuine ecosystem around supporting them.
President and CEO Christy Holland shared the Chamber's perspective on the importance of nonprofit organizations:
"The Chamber supports the nonprofit community because we know their missions strengthen Montgomery County. Strong economies are built on thriving communities that are rooted in inclusion, access to resources and meaningful opportunity. Nonprofit and for-profit organizations are intrinsically connected through the people they serve. The challenges addressed by nonprofits are the same challenges faced by our workforce, customers, neighbors, and families. By supporting nonprofit missions, we invest in a stronger community and a stronger economy. Connecting community and commerce is central to the Chamber's mission."
Networking. Fundraising opportunities. Board development. Leadership training. Regular programming designed to put mission-driven organizations in the same room as the business leaders who can help them grow.
The Chamber's calendar reflects that commitment. A Celebration of Community, scheduled for Thursday, June 18, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Montgomery Township Recreation Center in Montgomeryville, is one of the highlights. Get Tickets Here
The event recognizes individuals and organizations whose service and leadership have made a meaningful impact across the county. The program includes networking, a buffet lunch, keynote remarks, and an awards presentation.
The Chamber supports its young professionals to lead the Business with a Purpose (BWAP) committee through a hands-on approach. Open to members 45 and under, BWAP supports local nonprofits through service and fundraising.
Its second annual Cooking for a Cause fundraiser is set for Thursday, July 9, from 5 to 8 PM at Volpe Enterprises in North Wales.
Last year's inaugural event raised nearly $5,000 for five nonprofits, and organizers are aiming to match or exceed that total in 2026.
Tickets are $50, include one voting ticket and open bar, and proceeds go directly to nonprofit Chamber members.
The Chamber also runs a quarterly Nonprofit Council, giving nonprofit leaders a dedicated forum to network, collaborate, share resources, and work through best practices.
The next meeting features a speaker focused on fundraising strategies.
For those looking to strengthen their board service, Leaders on Board offers a virtual six-week training program delivered in one-hour sessions via Zoom.
The curriculum covers governance, strategic planning, fundraising fundamentals, financial oversight, and impact measurement. Cost is $99 for all six sessions, open to members and non-members alike.
Every month, the Local & On Tap networking series brings roughly 75 community and business leaders together, spotlights a local nonprofit, and raises an average of $600 to more than $1,200 per event.
For nonprofits looking to grow their visibility, build relationships, and access real resources, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County is worth a closer look.
